JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD CLOSE YOUR EYES

Yupper, those poor folks living near Bushkill Park in Forks Township thought they lived in a nice, out-of-the-way QUIET sort of place. They don't have the traffic woes that those living along major arteries have. A lovely place to nest and raise their families for sure. Hey, guess what people? Your nice "natural" environment is wanted by everyone else! Right. You've got it and THEY want it. Why should YOU be so lucky? Gee, you endure flooding and wildlife and the scary parts of isolation. YOU pay the taxes. THEY want a piece of it. It's so CROWDED in their neighborhoods you see. Their yards are too small for kids. Their roads are too busy for biking. They want YOUR backyards. And, by damned, they are gonna get it. So much for asking them to "do nothing" huh?

And, now, the new Township website has finally uploaded a MAP (caution LARGE file) of the current and proposed bike trails. HEADS UP EVERYONE! Now, the folks who endured two floods in six months are going to get hit upside their heads again. Yupper, you see you guys, you have lovely river frontage (when it's not under water) and you've worked hard to keep it "natural" and unspoiled. You protect it like you own it. Hey, your deeds say you do own it. Take a good close look at the file online. (Click here for a smaller crop from it.) Someone wants to get between you and the river. Guess the new folks in the nice big, squished together houses, don't have any place to play and need your yards. Hope they have lots and lots and lots of money to BUY the land they plan to use. Heck, with enough money you can move uphill and right next to them. Maybe Strausser is trading the Township the sewer line on 611 for the condemnation of your river frontage? Who knows? It's time to start "kicking and screaming" before it's too late. Anyone know who drew the lines on the map?

It's a shame people buy these cookie cutter homes on a measily piece of property. These huge house sit 5 feet from each other with hardly a backyard fit enough to enjoy.

I have to admit though, I will enjoy the added bike trails....

The lines... who drew the lines? Holy cow, the new housing "units" are there and new roads too with the exception of a big one, Winchester Drive! Where'd it go? Iron Lane is there... but it ends blindly.

Then there's the lovely cyclist eliminator on Arndt Road and Bushkill Drive. Yup shoot 'em across why don't you! Good grief. Take the pink marker away from that person! Bike paths on 115 and Richmond Roads. Give me a break. Who is this dreamer?

The proposed bike trail through my riverfront property is a great idea. I plan to open a bicycle shop and make a million dollars. Wow, the Fork's Township Planners are great! Now Seriously folks...

Welcome "riverrites." Hope you do make a million dollars with you new bike shop! Gotta get compensated somehow for the loss of privacy and river access. Don't forget to sell nice cold bottled water too. Gee, maybe the Township will actually HELP with flood cleanups in the future? Hey, they'll even clear away regular river debris right? Won't it be fun every spring when they ride the streetsweeper up and down the path to clear away the river mud?

So, do you think we should name the trails like thrill rides at amusement parks? I found a website that lists a lot of them. I do like "Cyclist Eliminator" for the Arndt Road Bushkill Drive crossing. It's gonna be a real killer. The one through your yard could be called "Sink or Swim" and the one near Bushkill Park could be called "Riding the Rails." The one on Sullivan Trail? Hmmm... how about "The Long Goodbye?"

Now, who's got the pink marker?

There I was in the tall grass looking for a lost ball, when lo and behold a rabbit hole. Remembering Alice, I decided to where it would lead. The fog was setting in, there was a mirage of a sewer line(just an illusion). Then there in the hole it lay, pink and green markers(dashes and solid lines) the Forks Bike Trail Plan Of 1988. It looked a little musty (could use a definite redraw).Alas, time to get out of this hole. The turf still needs trimming despite the recent heat.

A plan from 1988? A year of wishful thinking... ahhh... looks like that Alice is still dreaming. Wonder if the Red and White Queens are looking for their Titlists down the Township's biggest "rabbit" (sink)hole ever? The sewer lines (mirages) stink... that hole must be rank for sure. Better get the heck out of there or it the stink will get on you too! Have you tried connecting the dots? The Cheshire Cat it ain't. Use your bicycle! Peddle hard. Do not pass GO.
